Palestinian Prisoners End Hunger Strike With Deal
Hundreds of Palestinian security prisoners in Israeli jails ended a hunger strike on Monday that had lasted weeks, signing an agreement with the Israeli authorities that promises improved conditions, according to officials. The end of the strike averted fears of widespread unrest in the event of a prisoner’s death.
The Israeli authorities said that among other provisions, the agreement calls for prisoners now in solitary confinement to be returned to ordinary sections of prisons and for family visits to resume for prisoners from Gaza, which is under the control of Hamas, the more radical of the major Palestinian factions.

In its policies in Bahrain, the US government slams the Arabs in the face many times. First, it assumes that Arabs are idiots and that they won’t notice that the US is applying different standards for oppression in Syria and Bahrain.
Secondly, it tries to insult the intelligence of the Bahraini people by rationalizing its arms sales to Bahrain under the pretext that it wants to empower the “reformist” crown prince.
Thirdly, the US government basically reveals that not only does it not support democracy in the region – and it never will. It also shows that it will fight democracy tooth and nail when any of its clients face a direct threat, especially if the threatened client possesses gas or oil.

Tameyoshi Sakamoto, also known as “el brujo” introduced the Dominican Republic to Goju Ryu in 1958. As a youth Mongolian born Sakamoto learned to fight out of necessity, facing discrimination in Japan for being a foreigner. Caught between 2 worlds he didn’t really fit into, he decided to move to the city of Constanza in the Domincan Republic.
Tameyoshi Sakamoto also trained extensively in Judo. In his style of Goju Ryu, he introduced his students to the concept of combining ground fighting along with karate, many years before hybridization of martial arts became a fad. Experts today can see the influence of many other arts in a Sakamoto dojo, including Yawara, Kobudo, Kendo, Kumiai Jutsu, Sumo, and Ch’uan-fa.
My family has been training in Sakamoto dojos for several generations. If I lived in the Dominican Republic, I probably would be too.
